Artist Statement
Magnificent saturated translucent colors, captivating formal abstractions, metal collages of biomorphic shape and form, can only begin to describe my work. With my signature style, I create aluminum sculptures by plasma cutting, bending, hammering, and TIG welding. The sculptures are then finished with a grinder and airbrushed with translucent enamels.
As a young boy my spark for welding and the creative process was set as I watched my father weld and braze metals into unique sculptures. I started my art career as an abstract painter while at St. Petersburg College and later moved into metal sculpture after receiving my Bachelors of Arts in Fine Art from the University of South Florida.
I am interested in the physical act that goes into my work. I describe it as a performance or dance with the material; a chance to change something raw into something beautiful. My subject matter ranges from modern abstract forms dealing with human life, love, and inspiration to formally abstracted sea life. My latest work also includes monumental public art.
My work is available at numerous nationally ranked art festivals, galleries, and Tampa Bay charity events.
